Jean pierre NICOLAS (France)

Fils de garagiste, JUMBO, son surnom du entre autres à ses victoires Africaines, fut un des piliers de l'année 73 et de la célèbre équipe ALPINE des mousquetaires. En 78, il gagna le MONTECARLO sur une PORSCHE 911 (il fut le premier privé à remporter l'épreuve), puis courut sur des voitures différentes toute l'année pour finir 2° de la COUPE FIA derrière ALEN, pilote d'usine.
Selon Jean TODT, il était le meilleur pilote Français, peut-être pas le plus rapide mais le plus complet. Il mit au point la 205TURBO16 et acheva sa carrière de pilote par une 4° place au TOUR DE CORSE . S'en suivit une carrière fructueuse chez PEUGEOT chez qui il finira Directeur Sportif. Nouveau retraité suite à l'abandon du programme rallye de la marque.

-Avec MIKKOLA, est le seul à avoir remporté les 3 épreuves africaines (KENYA, MAROC,IVOIRE)

-En 2007, il est nommé directeur FIA afin de superviser l’IRC

Jean Pierre NICOLAS (France)

Son of a mechanic, JUMBO, his nickname due among other things to his African victories, was one of the pillars of the year 73 and of the famous ALPINE team of musketeers. In 78, he won the MONTECARLO in a PORSCHE 911 (he was the first privateer to win the event), then raced in different cars all year to finish 2nd in the FIA CUP behind ALEN, factory driver.

According to Jean TODT, he was the best French driver, perhaps not the fastest but the most complete. He developed the 205TURBO16 and ended his driving career with a 4th place in the TOUR DE CORSE. This was followed by a fruitful career at PEUGEOT where he would end up as Sports Director. Newly retired following the abandonment of the brand's rally program. -With MIKKOLA, is the only one to have won the 3 African events (KENYA, MOROCCO, IVORY)
